Aircraft noise at one address: which flight path, how often, at what hour

A noise map colours areas. A flat sits at a point, and what matters there is: does the address lie within the measurement band of a flight path, how many aircraft passed in the sample, and at what time of day.

At the point, not across an area

Vienna-Schwechat has several operating directions, and which one applies depends on the wind. So “under the approach path” is almost never a yes-or-no question but a question of frequency. The report names the paths whose band the address actually falls within and emphasises them in the drawing.

What is computed — and where it stops

✈️The flight paths · officialThe approach and departure paths of Vienna Airport with their bands. The address is tested against them geometrically — not by district, because a district can lie half underneath and half not.
✈️The daily pattern · sampleHow the observed overflights are distributed across the hours. The same number means something different in the evening and early morning than at midday — and that is exactly what people who want to sleep are asking.
✈️No decibels · the limitWe state no loudness. A noise level at a facade depends on height, built form, wind and aircraft type; a figure without that calculation would be an assertion dressed as a measurement.

What is not here is a decibel value. Claiming one would mean running a propagation calculation that needs buildings, wind and aircraft type. What is here is checkable: position relative to the path, frequency from a sample, distribution across the day.

Frequently asked

How does this differ from the official noise map?

The official map is an area with limit values and a legal instrument. Here you get how a SINGLE address sits relative to the paths and what a sample of overflights showed. It is not a replacement but the question seen from one flat.

Is the sample representative?

It is a sample, and the report says so. Operating directions change with the wind, holiday traffic shifts the numbers. Position relative to the path is stable; frequency is a snapshot.

Does it cover road and rail noise too?

The location report carries a road-noise finding from other data alongside. This page is about aircraft noise because it is the question a map answers worst.

Why is a disadvantage in the report at all?

Because a measured disadvantage is never removed from this tool — not even on request. That is the one sentence a portal paid by the seller cannot write.

All measurements · For agents & developers · The light check

Approach and departure paths of Vienna-Schwechat, tested geometrically against the address; overflights from a sample. No sound level, no propagation model, no substitute for the official noise map.
