A matter of taste: the biggest and best known is the one at Rathausplatz with its ice rink. Schönbrunn and the Belvedere are atmospheric in front of the palaces, the Spittelberg is cosy and tight, and the Türkenschanzpark is the quiet insider tip.
When are Vienna’s Christmas markets open?
Most open in mid-November and close around 24–26 December; Schönbrunn stays open into January. Exact dates change every year — best to check with the individual market.
Which district has the biggest Christmas market?
The biggest is at Rathausplatz in the 1st district (Innere Stadt). Many of the well-known markets are central in the 1st, plus Schönbrunn (13th), the Belvedere (3rd) and the Spittelberg (7th).
