Living-data guide · updated June 2026

In Advent Vienna transforms: punch stalls in front of baroque palaces, crafts in narrow Biedermeier lanes, mulled wine under lit-up trees. Each market has its own character — and tells you a lot about the area it sits in. We show the best-known ones with the district behind them.

The markets at a glance

🎄Rathausplatz Christmas Market District 1The biggest and best known: hundreds of stalls in front of the floodlit City Hall, an ice rink in the park and mulled wine under old trees. The classic. 🎄Schönbrunn Palace Christmas Market District 13In front of the imperial palace, festive and spacious — and one of the few that stay open into January. 🎄Spittelberg Christmas Market District 7In the narrow Biedermeier lanes: craft stalls, mulled wine and village charm in the middle of the city. Tight, cosy, much loved. 🎄Belvedere Palace Christmas Village District 3Atmospheric by the upper pond in front of the palace mirrored in the water — lovely and rarely overcrowded. 🎄Altes AKH Christmas Village District 9In the courtyards of the old general hospital, now the university campus — cosy among the arcades, popular with students. 🎄Am Hof Christmas Market District 1On one of Vienna's oldest squares, with a focus on crafts and design. 🎄Freyung Old-Vienna Christmas Market District 1Rustic and traditional in front of the Schottenkirche, one of the city's oldest markets. 🎄Art Advent at Karlsplatz District 4Organic food and crafts in front of the Karlskirche, with a petting zoo and a relaxed, family feel. 🎄Maria-Theresien-Platz Christmas Village District 1Between the two grand museums, central and festively lit. 🎄Stephansplatz Christmas Market District 1Small and very central right beside St. Stephen's Cathedral — the quickest punch in the city. 🎄Riesenradplatz Christmas Market District 2In the Prater at the foot of the Giant Ferris Wheel, with rides and lights — the liveliest one for kids. 🎄Türkenschanzpark Christmas Market District 18The small insider tip in the park, with music and crafts — quiet and away from the crowds.
